All three of these patterns are intended to be painted directly onto sidewalks, walls, and windows in public spaces, such as grocery stores. These patterns are made to encourage interaction with art and with people. I originally created the patterns, large scale, on spray painted masonite boards and plexi glass to replicate sidewalks, outside building walls, and windows. I then asked my friends to draw on all the pieces; chalk on the masonite (sidewalk + wall), and acrylic paint markers on the plexi glass, so that I could see how people would interact with the motifs I drew and how the patterns would look with chalk or acrylic paint markers, and other styles of drawing layered on top of my style. The idea for these patterns is that the pattern would be permanent, but what is drawn on top of them with chalk or acrylic paint markers would be erasable, and allow for a day-to-day interactive by multiple people.
This is a series of patterns designed for placemats and tablecloths inspired by Russell Wright's "American Modern" Ceramics. These patterns were made with watercolor and cut paper.
